I've been an artist all my life. When I was in the second grade I remember my teacher was impatiently waiting for me to finish a drawing so she could hang it up on the wall. She anticipated that it was going to be good. I thought nothing of it. I just liked to draw.
When I was about 12, I would sit by the curb in the Bronx and sketch the cars parked on the street. After a while I would attract a crowd. I learned to draw Superman, Donald Duck and Popeye by memory.
Creating works of art would take me to a special place. It became a refuge for me. A refuge from a speech impediment. I do not stutter with my brush strokes. They are smooth, precise and intentional. — Erasmo
